Creating a Site Summary (Description)

Site Summary

Once you have selected the keywords for your website you need to create a one sentence summary of what your website offers.

The site summary is used when you register your site with search engines and other online directories such as DMOZ (The Open Directory) .

Keep in mind the following points:

  • The site summary should be something that catches the eye of a web user browsing through listings of your type of service or product.
  • It should be short enough to be scanned quickly, but long enough to give meaning and encourage the user to visit your website.
  • Don`t use words such as "Visit our site for",  or "Click here",  as they are redundant phrases on the web.
  • For a few ideas of how other sites have written their summaries visit http://www.dmoz.org and select a category that relates to your business and look at the sites listed.
  • Write the summary in the third person, IE, "Offers the best" rather than "We off the best"
  • For maximum effectiveness the summary should be no longer that 15 words

The site summary should contain your most important keywords from the list you created
