Tracking codes Overview

Flower Store In a Box supports all standard website tracking codes. You can add Google Analytics 4, Google Tag Manager, Google Ads conversion tracking, Facebook/Meta Pixel, Microsoft Clarity, and any other third-party tracking script s.

The two ways to track

There are two main approaches, and it is important to understand the difference:

  • Direct tracking (GA4, Google Ads) - Add the tracking ID in your website settings. The platform loads the script for you. Simple to set up.
  • Google Tag Manager (GTM) - Add your GTM container ID in settings. GTM then manages all your other tags (GA4, Google Ads, Facebook Pixel, etc.) from one place in Google`s interface. More flexible, and recommended for anyone running Google Ads.

Important: do not run GA4 and GTM at the same time

If you enter both a GA4 measurement ID and a GTM container ID in your settings, GA4 will fire twice - once directly and once through GTM. This causes double-counted orders in your GA4 reports and inflated conversion data in Google Ads.

Choose one approach:

  • Using GTM- Remove the direct GA4 ID from your website settings. Manage GA4 entirely through your GTM container.
  • Not using GTM- Add GA4 directly in settings and leave the GTM field empty.

Recommended setup for most florists

For florists running Google Ads, the recommended setup is:

  1. Enter your GTM container ID in settings (e.g. GTM-XXXXXXX).
  2. Leave the GA4 field empty.
  3. Inside GTM, add tags for GA4, Google Ads conversion tracking, and anything else you need.

This gives you one central place to manage all tracking and makes it easy to add or change tags without touching the website settings.

Server-side tracking via Cloudflare

For higher-traffic florists or those wanting to bypass ad blockers, Flower Store In a Box supports routing GTM through Cloudflare`s Google Tag Gateway. This sends tracking data through your own domain rather than directly from the browser to Google, which improves data accuracy. Contact support to set this up.
