Moving Your Existing Website Across With Claude

Moving from Shopify or WordPress? You don`t have to retype your website. Our free website migration skill for Claude Code moves your existing website onto your new Flower Store In a Box site for you, and keeps your Google rankings.

It is the same tool our team uses for Standard and Innovator customers, so if you are on one of those packages, we do all of this for you. This article is for DIY customers who would like to do it themselves.

What comes across

  • Categories, with your names, headings, text, SEO titles and preview text
  • Products, with prices (up to 8 price options each), the wording on your product pages, main images, galleries and colour options
  • Pages, such as About, Contact, Delivery, Terms, Privacy and Refunds
  • Suburb delivery pages
  • Blog posts, with their images and categories
  • 301 redirects from every old page address to its new home

Your SEO titles and preview text come across exactly as you wrote them. Together with your page addresses and your page wording, they are what earned your Google rankings, and all three are kept.

It works with Shopify and WordPress / WooCommerce websites. If your website is on Wix, Squarespace or another platform, contact us and we will help.

What you need

  • Claude Code, in the Claude desktop app or the terminal, on a Claude Pro or Max plan.
  • The migration skill installed in Claude Code. See Installing the Website Migration Skill.
  • Your new site`s API key, from Settings > Advanced Settings > API.
  • Your old website`s address, for example https://www.yourshop.com.au
  • About an afternoon. Most of it is waiting while it loads.

Moving your website, step by step

  1. Make a new, empty folder on your computer, for example "Website move", and open Claude Code in it.
  2. Type something like: Move my old website across to my new Flower Store In a Box site.
  3. Give Claude your old website`s address and your new site`s API key when it asks.
  4. Claude reads your old website. Nothing on your old website is changed.
  5. Claude looks at your new site to see what is already there, then makes a plan.
  6. Claude opens a review sheet in your web browser. It shows everything that will come across, anything it is leaving out and why, and anything it needs you to decide. Read it through and ask Claude to change anything you like.
  7. When you are happy, tell Claude to go ahead. Nothing is added to your new site until you say so.
  8. Claude loads everything onto your new site. A typical florist website with 50 to 100 products takes about an hour. You can leave it running, and if it is interrupted, Claude picks up where it left off.
  9. Claude checks every product, page and redirect, then tells you in plain English what came across and what needs your attention.

You will know it worked when your products, categories and pages show on your new site`s dev address (ending in .fsiab.com), and Claude`s final check reports no problems.

Changed your mind about something afterwards? Just ask Claude. It updates the site in place rather than starting again.

Before you start

  • Do it on your dev site, before launch.
  • Your redirects start working once your domain points at Flower Store In a Box, when your website goes live.
  • Some things need setting up by hand afterwards. See After Moving Your Website: What to Set Up by Hand.
